The Hawkins Sheriff's Department is located in the city of Hawkins, Indiana. It is run by a sheriff named Jim Hopper, and two deputies of note, Powell and Callahan. A woman named Florence works as a dispatcher at the office and does routine administrative work.
In November, 1983, the members of Hawkins Sheriff's Department found themselves working overtime, when a young boy named Will Byers suddenly disappeared. Will's mother, Joyce Byers, who had a long history with Sheriff Hopper, pleaded with him for his aid. Hopper exhausted all resources in searching for the boy. They eventually found a body, which they initially believed to be Byers, in a lake bed a the foot of a canyon. This later turned out to be a cleverly made duplicate orchestrated by the scientists over at the Hawkins National Laboratory.
