- The title of this episode is taken from a lyric from the song "Happy Xmas (War is Over)", which written by John Lennon and Yoko with the Plastic Ono Band. It was released as a single in 1971, and is routinely played on the radio during the holiday season. The song has also been regarded as a protest song against the Vietnam War.
- Laura Barton is revealed to be a former agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. in this episode. The inscription on the back of her watch establishes her designation as Agent 19. In the Marvel Universe, Agent 19 is the code name Bobbi Morse, who later became the super-hero known as Mockingbird. Mockingbird was married to Clint Barton for an extended period of time. In the non-canonical Marvel Cinematic Universe Bobbi Morse is a former agent who appeared on episodes of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on ABC. She was played by actress Adrianne Palicki.
- Natasha Romanoff is referenced multiple times in this episode. Natasha and Clint have a long history together and first appeared together on-screen in The Avengers in 2012. Natasha sacrificed herself to help save the galaxy in Avengers: Endgame in 2019. Her relationship with Yelena Belova and their past together, alluded to in this episode, was revealed in the Black Widow feature film, which takes place prior to Avengers: Engame, but was released in 2021.
Quotes[]
- Yelena Belova: I'm not here to ruin anything. I'm just going to kill Barton, have some appetizers, and then I'll go.
....
- Yelena Belova: Before I kill you, I need to ask you one question.
- Clint Barton: It's nice to finally meet you, Yelena.
- Yelena Belova: I need to know what happened.
- Clint Barton: Look, Yelena, if I told you what really happened, you'd never believe me. But what you really need to know is your sister sacrificed herself, and saved the world. I'm sorry.
- Yelena Belova: You're lying.
- Clint Barton: What?
- Yelena Belova: You're pathetic. You are so pathetic.
....
- Yelena Belova: How do you know that?
- Clint Barton: Your secret whistle with Nat. She talked about you all the time, Nat.
- Yelena Belova: She did? What did she say?
- Clint Barton: She told me about how you got separated as kids. She was flying that plane. I asked her if she was scared. All she could think about is that you were safe. That never changed, Yelena. She loved you. And always wanted you safe.
- Yelena Belova: You got so much time with her.
- Clint Barton: Yes, I did.
- Yelena Belova: It shouldn't have gone this way. If I was there, I could have stopped it. I could have... I could have changed it.
- Clint Barton: Nothing was gonna stop her, Yelena. You know Natasha. She made her choice. We're gonna have to find a way to live with that.
....
- Wilson Fisk: Sometimes family doesn't see eye to eye.
