Biography[]
Hasmid Ali lived in the city of Mezzara in Egypt in the year 1920. He was the son of a fortune teller named Haiti and purported himself as a guardian of the Tomb of Kah-to-Bey near the Rock of Death. When an expedition led by archeologist Sir Basil Walden discovered the tomb, Hasmid warned them against violating the ruins. As is often the case, his warnings went unheard. The expedition recovered the remains and Sacred Shroud of Kah-to-Bey and brought them back to the Restoration House.
Swearing revenge against the foreigners, Hasmid broke into the Restoration House and used the Sacred Shroud to awaken the mummy of the Prince's guardian, Prem. He sent him out to take vengeance against those who had violated the Tomb of Kah-to-Bey.
Hasmid conspired with his mother, Haiti, who had read the fortune of the gravely ill Sir Basil Walden. He was the first member of the expedition that Hasmid sent Prem after. The mummy killed Walden and slowly worked his way through everyone who had been present inside the Prince's tomb, including the group's financier, Stanley Preston.
Hasmid was present when the mummy went after Paul Preston and Claire de Sangre. He tried to assist Prem in murdering them, but was shot several times in the back by Inspector Barrani. [2]
Notes & Trivia[]
- The character of Hasmid Ali was created by writer & director John Gilling and writer Anthony Hinds.
- Hasmid Ali claimed to have a brother as well as numerous children. However, this was said in the context of luring Stanley Preston into a trap, so he may have been lying. The only confirmed family member of Hasmid's was Haiti, who was his mother. It should be noted that actress Catherine Lacey, who played Haiti, was only fourteen years older than Roger Delgado.
- Actor Roger Delgado is best known for playing the role of The Master on the British science fiction television series Doctor Who.
