Harry Newton is a fictional photographer and a supporting character featured in the Hammer Horror film series. He was played by actor Tim Barrett and appeared in the 1967 film The Mummy's Shroud.

Biography[]

Harry Newton was a British photographer who was born sometime in the late 19th century. In 1920 he became a member of Sir Basil Walden's expedition to uncover the Tomb of Kah-to-Bey near the Rock of Death in Egypt. The group were warned by a radical Muslim named Hasmid Ali against defiling the tomb, and even the clairvoyant Claire de Sangre had a premonition that members of the expedition would come to meet a grisly end.

Hasmid Ali awakened the mummmified slave known as Prem and sent him out to murder members of Sir Basil's expedition. After crushing Basil Walden's head, the mummy then attacked Harry Newton in his darkroom. He broke a phial of acidic chemicals, which greatly burned Harry, and also set fire to the room. If the acid didn't kill Harry immediately, he died when his body caught on fire. [2]

Notes & Trivia[]

  • Harry Newton was the second murder victim of the mummy Prem, after Sir Basil Walden.
