Harry J. Essex was an American film screenwriter born in New York City, New York on November 29th, 1910. His first work in the genre was writing the screenplay for the 1941 sci-fi/horror film Man Made Monster starring Lon Chaney, Jr.. His most recognizable works however are the 1953 classic It Came from Outer Space and the 1954 film The Creature from the Black Lagoon for Universal Pictures.
