Hank Summers is a minor character featured in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer film and television franchise. In the original 1992 film version of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the character was referred to only as Buffy's dad, and was played by actor James Paradise. On the Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV series, he was played by Dean Butler and first appeared in the season one episode, "Nightmares".
Bioggraphy[]
Hank Summers was the husband of Joyce Summers and the father of Buffy Summers. When Buffy was expelled from Hemery High School in 1996, Hank became infuriated with her. The incident eventually led to Joyce divorcing him and she relocated to Sunnydale, California with her daughter.
Hank made a promise to Buffy to come visit her for her eighteenth birthday, where upon he would take her to an ice show. However, Hank's business life once again took priority over that of his family and he failed to see her. This crushed Buffy, who was already reeling from not only the stress of being a Slayer, but also from abandonment issues. [1]

Hank Summers has only made a few appearances in media relating to the Buffy the Vampire Slayer franchise. He appeared as unnamed role in the original feature film, which is only considered quasi-canon per the chronology of the television series. He made two on-screen appearances in the regular series, but also appeared in either flashbacks, in a dream or in a hallucination. He has also appeared in issues of the first Buffy the Vampire Slayer comic book series by Dark Horse Comics.
