Hagscroft Castle is a fictional location featured in comic books published by Marvel Comics. It relates to the character of Dracula and appeared in Tomb of Dracula #6 in January, 1973 in a story called "The Moorlands Monster!"
History[]
Hagscroft Castle was an ancient edifice located in the Moorlands of England. A remnant of an earlier time, it was known to bear witness to many "evil deeds". In the modern era, the castle was in ruins, but the burial vault beneath the ground floor still existed. The vampire known as Dracula briefly used this as a base of operations and retained a coffin there. He once used the ruins of the castle to bait his old enemies Frank Drake, Taj Nital, and Rachel van Helsing into a trap. The three vampire hunters pursued Dracula into the crypts of the castle, but Dracula surprised them, temporarily disabling Taj, and casting Frank and Rachel into a deep well. After sealing the well, Dracula made his escape. The "Moorland Monster" known as Randolph Dering, having followed the three to the castle, found the well and used his mammoth strength to open it, thus freeing Rachel and Frank. Afterward, they recovered Taj and Randolph helped lead them away from the castle.
