"The Strange Story of Cassie Hack" is a one-shot comic book special of the action and horror genres. It is the first chapter in what will become the greater Hack/Slash comic book franchise published by Devil's Due Publishing. The story was written by Tim Seeley with artwork and inks by Stefano Caselli. It was colored by Sunder Raj and lettered by Marshall Dillon. Caselli also rendered the cover art illustration. This issue shipped in April, 2004 and carries a cover price of $4.95 per copy (US).

  • It all begins right here. This is the first appearance of Cassie Hack and her partner, Vlad. It is the first appearance of Slashers, which is Cassie's name for a type of undead monster.
  • Cassie Hack makes reference to Nancy Drew in this issue. Nancy Drew is a teenage amateur detective featured in mystery stories published by Edward Stratemeyer. Nancy Drew books were ghostwritten by a number of authors and published under the collective pseudonym Carolyn Keene.
  • Cassie Hack makes reference to Bob Barker in this issue. Bob Barker was the host of the television game-show The Price is Right. Barker was known as a staunch advocate for spaying and neutering pets, which Cassie pokes fun at in this issue.
