H.R. Giger is a Swiss surrealist painter, sculptor, and set designer, who won an Academy Award for Best Achievement for Visual Effects for his design work on the film Alien. Giger's work was used as the inspiration behind the general look of the Xenomorph alien as well as that of the Space Jockey and the jockey's derelict ship.
