Nick Burkhardt - the last of the Grimms.
Grimms are a type of human featured in the NBC television series Grimm. They are normal human beings in every regard save for their awakened inborn ability to perceive supernatural creatures in their true forms. These creatures, known collectively as Wesen, are made up of many different subspecies, whose origins hail back to the stories told in old fairytales.
Grimms are hunters of the Wesen. Their greatest strengths are their alertness and perception, but they also possess heightened physical aptitudes that give them an edge in times of combat. Grimms are the deadliest and most feared enemy of the Wesen. Historically, they have been known to be exceedingly aggressive and have indiscriminately killed Wesen with extreme prejudice for several centuries. The lore of the Grimms can be found in a series of ancient codified texts. Some Wesen have taken up positions specifically designed to combat Grimms. Armed with a scythe, the Reaper of Grimms have fought against their human adversaries with mixed results for as long as the Grimms have been around.
In the modern era, there are very few Grimms left. One of the last of the Grimms was Marie Kessler - a librarian who spent her entire life fighting Wesen and had the scars to prove it. Dying of terminal cancer, she returned to Portland, Oregon to consult with her nephew, homicide detective Nick Burkhardt, who had only recently awakened to the world of the Wesen. She told him that he was one of the last of the Grimms and that it was his duty to "hunt down the bad ones". Unlike many of his predecessors, Detective Burkhardt did not automatically assume that all Wesen were evil. In fact, one of his closest allies was a Blutbad Wesen named Monroe.
