The Grey Council is a fictional organization featured in the American science fiction television series Babylon 5. It was first addressed in the season one episode, "Soul Hunter". The character of Delenn, one of the main characters on the series, is a member of the Grey Council.
Description[]
The Grey Council is the governing arm and ruling body of the Minbari people and the Minbari Federation. Their leader consists of a chosen one who is advocated by nine senior council members called Satai. They are aligned with the Council of Caste Elders and the Ministry of Culture. Other members of the Grey Council include Minbari from various castes including the Religious Caste, the Warrior Caste and the Worker Caste.
The Grey Council follows very strict precepts and guidelines. Their official greeting to it's members is as follows:
"I am Grey. I stand between the candle and the star. We are Grey. We stand between the darkness and the light".
One of the most renowned members of the Grey Council is the Satai Delenn. Delenn later went on to represent the Minbari as an ambassador aboard space station Babylon 5. However, she did not inform the command staff on the station that she was a Satai. This eventually became known in 2258 when a Soul Hunter peered into Delenn's soul and learned the truth about her place within the Minbari hierarchy. He relayed this information to Commander Jeffrey Sinclair. [1]
