The Green Mile is an American feature film of the paranormal drama genre. It is an adaptation of The Green Mile, which is a serialized novel series written by famed author Stephen King and published by Signet Books from March to August, 1996. It was written and directed by Frank Darabont and produced by Warner Bros., Castle Rock Entertainment and Darkwoods Productions. It was released theatrically in the United States on December 10th, 1999. The film stars Tom Hanks as Paul Edgecomb - a retired prison guard who lives in assisted living facility and tells his lady-friend Elaine Connelly about the bizarre events that he experienced while working as the senior correctional officer at the Cold Mountain Penitentiary in 1935. The film also stars the late Michael Clarke Duncan as magical Death Row prisoner John Coffey (like the drink 'cept not spelt the same), David Morse as prison guard Brutus "Brutal" Howell, Barry Pepper as prison guard Dean Stanton, Jeffrey DeMunn as prison guard Harry Terwilliger, Doug Hutchison as prison guard Percy Whetmore, James Cromwell as Cold Mountain warden Hal Moores, Graham Greene as inmate Arlen Bitterbuck, Bonnie Hunt as Paul's wife, Jan Edgecomb, Michael Jeter as Cajun prisoner Eduard Delacroix, Sam Rockwell as looney-toons inmate "Wild Bill" Wharton, and the late Harry Dean Stanton as ole' Toot-Toot.
