"Emerald Twilight (Part 1): The Past" is the 48th issue of the third Green Lantern ongoing comic book series published by DC Comics. It was written by Ron Marz with artwork by Bill Willingham and inks by Romeo Tanghal & Robert Campanella. It was colored by Anthony Tollin and lettered by Albert DeGuzman. The story was edited by Kevin Dooley with Eddie Berganza as assistant editor. This issue shipped with a January, 1994 cover date and carries a cover price of $1.50 per copy (US).

  • The character of Hal Jordan, aka Green Lantern, was created by writer John Broome and artist Gil Kane. He first appeared in Showcase #22 in October, 1959 in a story titled "S.O.S. Green Lantern!" He received his first ongoing Green Lantern comic book series in August, 1960.
  • This issue carries the approval stamp of the Comics Code Authority. It is colored black on the cover to this issue with white lettering whereas it is usually colored white with black lettering.
  • This issue is UPC barcode number 761941200279 04811.
  • This issue shipped to retailers on December 9th, 1993.
  • The tagline to this issue is "The Resurrection of Coast City!"
  • This is the first chapter in the three-part "Emerald Twilight" storyline, which culminates with the landmark 50th issue of the series.

  • This issue introduces the character of Kyle Rayner, who will become an extremely important figure in the Green Lantern for years to come.
  • The dark journey that Hal Jordan undertakes in this issue is a result of the destruction of his home town of Coast City at the hands of Mongul. This occurred during the "Reign of the Supermen" storyline in Superman, Vol. 2 #80.
  • Although not named, the Guardian of the Universe that appears before Hal Jordan is Ganthet. He appears as a hologram only in this issue.
