- The character of Hal Jordan, aka Green Lantern, was created by writer John Broome and artist Gil Kane. He first appeared in Showcase #22 in October, 1959 in a story titled "S.O.S. Green Lantern!" He received his first ongoing Green Lantern comic book series in August, 1960.
- Annual #1 is an "Eclipso: The Darkness Within" crossover.
- Green Lantern Corps member Galius Zed is killed by Fatality in Green Lantern #82.
- Issue #48 begins the "Emerald Twilight" storyline, which is arguably one of the most defining and harrowing story-arcs in Hal Jordan's career.
- The character of Kyle Rayner is introduced in Green Lantern #48.
- The character of Alexandra DeWitt is murdered by Major Force in Green Lantern #54, giving rise to the "Women in Refrigerators" literary cliche.
