Green Lantern is an American feature film of the superhero fantasy and science fiction genres. It is based on the Green Lantern line of comic book titles published by DC Comics. The film was directed by Martin Campbell with a screenplay written by Greg Berlanti, Michael Green, Marc Guggenheim and Michael Goldenberg. It was produced by DC Entertainment, De Line Pictures and Warner Bros. Pictures and released theatrically in the United States on June 17th, 2011. The film stars Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan a cocky test-pilot who finds himself the inheritor of a great cosmic destiny when a dying alien named Abin Sur (played by Temuera Morrison) gives him a Green Lantern ring. Hal's world opens up to brand new concepts he never before dreamed possible. Also starring Green Lantern is Blake Lively as Carol Ferris, Mark Strong as Sinestro, Taika Waititi as Tom Kalmaku and Peter Sarsgaard as Hector Hammond.
