Season Four of the superhero fantasy & mystery series Gotham began airing on Thursday evenings on September 21st, 2017. The first half of the season aired under the story title banner "A Dark Knight". With this season, Drew Powell, Benedict Samuel and Michael Chiklis are removed from the main cast line-up. Maggie Geha, who was a season three regular, is now a recurring guess star. Actor Alexander Siddig is added to the main cast line-up for season four as Ra's al Ghul. Actress Erin Richards is absent for the season premiere, but returns to the main cast with episode 4x02, "The Fear Reaper". Actress Crystal Reed joined the main cast line-up of Gotham as mob boss daughter Sofia Falcone with episode 4x03, "They Who Hide Behind Masks".
