Preacher 2x04 024

Mark Harelik. Not God, but he plays one on TV!

God. The Big G. The Big Man. The creator of everything. The Alpha and the Omega. You get the point. He's the big invisible man who is flocked by choirs of angels and keeps an eye on the souls of everyone on Earth. He sees you when you're sleeping. He knows when you're awake, He knows when you've been bad or good, so you better be good... yadda, yadda, yadda. You know how it goes. He gets a real stick up his butt about sinners, and he's not a big fan of the Devil.

In the Marvel Universe, the cosmic being who comes the closest to being God is known as the One-Above-All. This being is responsible for the creation of... well, pretty much everything. Like... all of it. The whole multiverse. The One-Above-All is responsible for the creation of several ancient beings who serve as avatars of His will including Eternity, Death, and the Living Tribunal.

The AMC television series Preacher takes great liberties with accepted interpretations of God. In the show, God basically says "screw it" and leaves town. The angels freak out because there is nobody around to maintain order, so they nab some out-of-work Earth actor named Mark Harelik to take his place.

As it turns out, God was chillin' on Earth dressed up in a dog costume, riding a Harley with a biker bitch on the back. After Tulip O'Hare returned from Purgatory, she had an encounter with God, who was well aware of the people responsible for her murder. He gave her his blessing to get "those sonsabitches".
