Manga
Manga is a style of illustrated comic strip that was first developed in Japan in the late 19th century. The art-form has maintained a consistent level of evolution, and changed radically following World War II, conforming to the style and culture that has paved the way for modern day trends in the Japanese science fiction and fantasy entertainment industry. Though these may be the most prominent genres in modern manga, it also encapsulates illustrated stories in the drama, romance and horror genres. Manga has been a part of the mainstream Japanese publishing industry since the 1950s and has gained a major worldwide audience, particularly in the European and North American markets. Many manga are serialized stories, or "comic strips" that appear in specialty magazines or in their own collective works editions. Manga that is adapted into an animated film, television serial or similar original video animation (OVA) is referred to as anime.
