Kaiju

Kaiju is a Japanese word that means "strange beast," but often translated in English as "monster". Specifically, it is used to refer to a genre of film entertainment that began in the 1950s and gained popularity throughout the 1960s and 70s. Another phrase used in association with Kaijui is daikaiju, which means "giant monster". The most famous example of which is the Toho Company staple, Godzilla. The popularity of Godzilla films has spawned a veritable legion of similar creatures including Mothra, Anguirus, Rodan, Gamera, King Ghidorah, Yongary, Mechani-Kong and many more.
