Anime
Anime refers to a traditional style of animation that originated in the mid 1950s in the country of Japan. It has also been referred to by the politically incorrect term, Japanimation and includes a wide variety of films, mini-movies, television programs and other similar OVAs, many of which adapt the works of various manga. In Western culture, anime grew in popularity in the early 1970s to mid-1980s with films such as Akira in 1988 and the Robotech franchise. Notable luminaries of the genre include Osamu Tezuku - often regarded as the godfather of anime, who developed the Astro Boy series in 1952, as well as Shotaro Ishinomori, who developed the Kikaida and Kamen Raidâ franchises.
