Gina Torres is an American actress born in New York City, New York on April 25th, 1969. Initially, Gina began her career as a singer and developed her musical education at New York City's High School of Music and Art where she became a trained soprano. As she turned towards acting, Gina found herself in a variety of television programs, including several notable science fiction and fantasy projects. She had a recurring role as Nebula on Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, appearing in a total of nine episodes. Her first major role in a sci-fi venue was in the 2000 syndicated series Cleopatra 2525, where she played Helen "Hel" Carter, a woman from the 25th century who bands together with two others to fight an organization known as the Baileys. In addition to receiving top billing for Cleopatra 2525, Torres also performed the opening theme song.

Gina later played the role of Zoe Washburne in the short-lived Fox Network television series Firefly. As one of the primary supporting characters on the series, Torres appeared in all fourteen episodes as well as the spin-off feature film Serenity.

In 2003, Gina had a bit role in The Matrix Revolutions playing a character named Cas.

  • Gina Torres is one of four actors from Firefly who voiced superheroes on the Warner Bros. animated television series Justice League Unlimited. She provided the voice for the character of Vixen while Adam Baldwin voiced Hal Jordan, the Silver Age Green Lantern, Nathan Fillion voiced the Vigilante, and Morena Baccarin voiced Black Canary. Gina provided the voice for Vixen on five episodes of the series.
