A Gimer stick is a fictional item featured in the Star Wars franchise. It is classically seen as the walking cane used by Jedi Master Yoda in both the original and prequel film trilogy. The Gimer stick has made numerous appearances throughout the extended Star Wars Expanded Universe and can usually be found in whatever media the character of Yoda appears in.

Description[]

A Gimer stick is a wooden branch culled from the Gimer bush found on various worlds such as Kashyyyk and Dagobah. The bark of a Gimer stick contains various nutrients in it's juice, which may also produce an anesthetic effect upon those who imbibe it. Force-sensitive individuals would sometimes consume nutrients from the Gimer bush to aid them in their meditative exercises. Jedi Master Yoda used a walking cane fashioned from a Gimer stick. Prior to the onset of the Clone Wars, Yoda established strong relations with the Wookiees of Kashyyyk, who presented him with a Gimer stick as a gift. [1]

Though he sometimes used it as a walking aid, Yoda was in top physical form and really did not need to rely on such tools. This was demonstrated in 22 BBY, when he temporarily discarded his Gimer stick in order to fight Count Dooku following the Battle of Geonosis. Yoda had his Gimer stick with him in 19 BBY during the Battle of Kashyyyk, but was forced to leave it behind when his clone trooper regiment turned against him following the execution of Order 66. Following the Clone Wars, Yoda placed himself into self-imposed exile on the planet Dagobah. There he found another Gimer branch, which he used as a cane and a source of nourishment. As Yoda got on in years, the need for such a tool became more important than it had been in the past. Yoda had his Gimer stick with him when he first met Force-sensitive Luke Skywalker in 3 ABY. He had it with him a year later when he finally passed away at the age of 900. [2]

Notes & Trivia[]
