Giants are humanoid beings whose size and mass are well beyond that of a normal human. This condition exists in the real world as well and is called gigantism, and is usually accompanied by disproportionate limbs. In the real world, those who have gigantism may grow to a height in excess of seven feet. In speculative fiction, giants tend to be significantly larger than this. Gigantism is caused by excessive growth of the pituitary gland.
