Gernsback is a fictional robot featured in comic books published by DC Comics. He appeared in "The Secret Origin of the Golden Age Sandman" story from Secret Origins, Volume 2 #7 in October, 1986. At this time, the robot was known as Elektro.
Biography[]
Elektro was a large bronze-colored android that was put on display at the New York World's Fair in June, 1939. A masked villain known as the Phantom of the Fair found a way to take control of the remote governing Elektro's systems and used it to terrorize guests at the fairgrounds. Among those in attendance who were threatened by Elektro were Mayor Fiorello La Guardia and King George VI of England. The Crimson Avenger and the Sandman teamed up to stop Elektro and used him to pin the Phantom of the Fair to the ground, but the Phantom ultimately escaped.
