Hammer Horror[]

Gerda is a fictional housekeeper featured in the 1958 horror film, Horror of Dracula, which is part of the "Hammer Horror" film series by Hammer Film Productions.

Gerda was a middle-aged woman who lived in the village of Klausenburg during the latter half of the 19th century. She worked as a housekeeper for Arthur Holmwood and his wife, Mina and had a ten-year-old daughter named Tania.

In May of 1885, Arthur's younger sister, Lucy, had fallen gravely ill. Arthur's colleague, Professor Van Helsing, recognized the symptoms and knew that Lucy had become the victim of a vampire. He had the Holmwoods lock the windows in Lucy's room and fill it with fresh garlic cloves. Gerda, unaware of why these provisions were made, visited the sick Lucy that evening, who begged her to remove the garlic, citing that she couldn't breathe. Gerda did so, and also opened the window, allowing the vampire Dracula entrance to her room. Lucy died that evening. The following morning, Gerda tearfully confessed to the Holmwoods that she had removed the garlic from Lucy's room.
