- Originally, the comic book character Gwen Stacy died after being tossed from the top of the George Washington Bridge by the Green Goblin in Amazing Spider-Man, Volume 1 #121. Spider-Man commented that the bridge was named for the Goblin's favorite president, who is also featured on the $1.00 bill. Later interpretations of the story retroactively changed the location to the Brooklyn Bridge.
