George Bannerman is a fictional law-enforcement officer and a supporting character featured in the books of Stephen King. He first appeared in the 1979 novel The Dead Zone. He also appeared in the 1981 book, Cujo.
Biography[]
George Bannerman was the sheriff of Castle Rock, Maine. He played a major role in the investigation of the Castle Rock Strangler, who turned out to be a police officer named Frank Dodd. Bannerman worked with a local physic named Johnny Smith, who could gain insight into the murders by way of his clairvoyant abilities. Dodd committed suicide however before he could be brought to justice. [1]
A short time later, George Bannerman drove out to 7 Oaks Farm which was owned by Joe Camber. He was searching for Donna Trenton and Tad Trenton who had gone missing. Camber's pet St. Bernard, Cujo, had become rabid, and attacked George Bannerman, biting him in the stomach, ultimately killing him. [2]
