Gattaca is an American feature film of the "hard" science fiction genre, dealing with the subject of genetics, and genetic manipulation. It was written and directed by Andrew Niccol and produced by Columbia Pictures and Jersey Films. It premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in Canada on September 7th, 1997. It was first screened in the United States at the Chicago International Film Festival in October, 1997. It opened nationwide in the United States on October 24th, 1997. The film stars Ethan Hawke in the dual role of Vincent & Jerome with Jude Law as Eugene, and Uma Thurman as Irene.
