The demon bottle is a fictional item featured in comic books published by DC Comics. It relates to the Constantine line of comic titles and first appeared in Hellblazer #1 in January, 1988.

History[]

This was a bottle of indeterminate origin that came into the possession of drug addict and amateur occultist Gary Lester. While in Tangier, Gary came upon a Sudanese boy who was possessed by a demon. Gary used what meager talents he had to perform an exorcism, and he drew the essence of Mnemoth the hunger demon out of the boy and trapped it inside of a bottle. Unfortunately, this also resulted in the child's death. The demon tempted Gary Lester from inside the bottle, demanding to be let out.

Unsure of what to do next, Gary shipped the bottle to the United States to the residence of a woman named Emma, who was an ex-girlfriend of his old mate, John Constantine. Gary was unaware however, that Emma had already been killed by another demonic entity known as an Invunche. Gary met back up with John in London, and the two traveled to the United States to retrieve the bottle.

Gary and John came to discover that an artist had taken up residence inside of Emma's apartment, and had refused delivery of the bottle. It was sent back to the post office where an employee named Henry Wambach opened it, setting the demon free. Wambach ws Mnemoth's first victim. [1]
