The Frightful Four are a fictional super-villain team featured in comic books published by Marvel Comics. They are part of the mainstream Marvel Universe and are generally associated with the Fantastic Four family of titles. The team first appeared in Fantastic Four, Volume 1 #36 in March 1965.
Overview[]
The Frightful Four was a four-person team of super-villains. They were founded by Bentley Wittman, aka the Wizard, and were created to serve as an "evil" counterpart to the superhero team, the Fantastic Four. The original Frightful Four consisted of The Wizard, Paste Pot Pete (Peter Petruski), the Sandman (William Baker, their final member, Medusa (Medusalith Amaquelin), who was actually an amnesiac tricked into working with the team.
The line-up of the Frightful Four has changed considerably over the years, but it has always been led by the Wizard, and always operated as a foil to the Fantastic Four.
