Friday the 13th is an American horror film franchise that began in 1980 and has spawned numerous sequels, as well as a crossover film, comic book adaptations, novelizations, and video games. It was created by writer Victor Miller and first brought to life by director Sean S. Cunningham in the original Friday the 13th feature film. Later material and plot elements were developed by Ron Kurz. The central antagonist of the franchise is Jason Voorhees, the son of deceased murderer Pamela Voorhees, who is known for donning a hockey mask and wielding a wide array of weapons (usually a machete) and hacking up various youths at Camp Crystal Lake.
