"No More Mr. Nice Guy" is the pilot episode of the American horror anthology series Freddy's Nightmares. The episode is hosted by Freddy Krueger, played by Robert Englund, reprising the role he made famous in the 1984 Wes Craven film A Nightmare on Elm Street. It first aired on Sunday, October 9th, 1988.
Synopsis[]
Fred Krueger is a vicious child murderer responsible from the town of Springwood, Ohio. After luring more than twenty local children to his boiler room and slaughtering them, Krueger is finally arrested and placed on trial. He attends the trial wearing his signature brown derby and a red and green striped sweater. Due to a technicality however, the courts cannot hold him and Krueger is free to go.
Enraged, the townsfolk decide to exact revenge. They track Freddy back to his boiler room and seal him inside. They light the place on fire and Freddy burns to death. This is not the end for Krueger however, but merely just the beginning. Freddy rises from the ashes of his own demise as a deformed demonic entity, stalking the children of Elm Street in their dreams.

Notes & Trivia[]

Mary Ann and Tim Blocker.
- This is the first episode of the series. Freddy's Nightmares uses the same formula as other horror anthology programs such as Tales from the Crypt where a central figure, in this case, Freddy Krueger, serves as the host of the series, serving up tales of the strange and macabre.
- Scenes from this episode were adapted into the A Nightmare on Elm Street: The Beginning #2 comic book issue, which was published by Innovation Comics in the Fall of 1992.
- This is the first of two episodes of the series that are considered part of the A Nightmare on Elm Street canon. The sequel to this episode is "Sister's Keeper". Although both episodes tie-in to the greater A Nightmare on Elm Street mythos, there are several discrepancies regarding the internal history of the episodes and how they relate to the film series. The character of Freddy Krueger was introduced in the original A Nightmare on Elm Street in 1984. The film alluded to events that take place in this episode, but were not visually represented at the time.
- Director Tobe Hooper is better known as the creator of the original 1974 independent slasher film The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. He has also directed films such as Eaten Alive, Poltergeist and The Mangler.
- Merrit Blocker, Lisa Blocker and Sarah Blocker all return in "Sister's Keeper".
- Scenes of Freddy's trial were included in the 2010 documentary Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy.
- This is the first time we see Freddy Krueger prior to becoming burned. We will see another version of pre-burned Freddy in the 1991 film Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare.
- Actress Gwen E. Davis will reprise the role of the judge for episode 1x08, "Mother's Day".
Allusions[]
- The title of this episode may be a reference to "No More Mr. Nice Guy", which is a rock and roll song written and performed by Alice Cooper on the 1973 studio album, Billion Dollar Babies. Alice Cooper played the role of Edward Underwood - Freddy Krueger's adoptive father in flashback scenes from Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare.
- Freddy Krueger intones the line "I am forever" in this episode. Another horror movie icon known for saying lines such as this is Daniel Robitaille, aka Candyman from the Candyman film series, as well as Pinhead from the Hellraiser film series.
Quotes[]
- Freddy Krueger: I... am... forever.
