Notes & Trivia
- Frankenstein, and all related characters, are based on concepts developed by English author Mary Shelley's as presented in her 1818 novel Frankenstein; or, the Modern Prometheus. The Frankenstein story has since been adapted and expanded upon in numerous films, novels, comic books and television projects.
- The tagline to this series is "The Monster Is Back!!!"
- "Frankenstein (1963)" and "Frankenstein (Dell)" both redirect to this page.
- Much like Dell's Dracula series, the first issue was a more traditional horror themed take on the character, loosely based on the Universal Monsters tradition, but the remainder of the series re-imagined the title character as a super-hero.
- This is the second comic book series to carry the title of Frankenstein, and the only such series published by Dell Comics. The first Frankenstein comic book was more of a humor mag and was published by Crestwood Publications and ran from April, 1945 to November, 1954, spanning a total of thirty-three issues.
- Frankenstein #1 went to second printing in October, 1964.
- In addition to Dracula, Dell published another monster-turned-superhero series with Werewolf, which ran for three issues from 1966 to 1967.
