Forbidden Planet is an American science fiction/mystery thriller directed by Fred W. Wilcox. It was produced by MGM and released theatrically in the United States on March 15th, 1956. The film stars Walter Pidgeon, Anne Francis and Leslie Nielsen and is best known for introducing the iconic fictional character, Robby the Robot.
Loosely based on The Tempest by William Shakespeare.
