Fogwell's Gym is a fictional location featured in comic books published by Marvel Comics. It is associated with the Daredevil line of titles and first appeared in Daredevil #1 in April, 1964.
History[]
Fogwell's Gym was a gym used for training boxers. It was located in Manhattan, New York City, New York on the Lower West Side. Years ago, Jack Murdock used to train at this gym back when he was a professional boxer known by the ring name "Battlin'" Jack Murdock. In the years following Jack Murdock's death, his son, Matt Murdock, also the costumed superhero known as Daredevil, came to the gym looking for clues to solve his father's murder.
When Matt Murdock became a homeless vagrant due to the machinations of Wilson Fisk, he found himself returning to Fogwell's Gym. He practiced on a punching bag, but ultimately collapsed. He was discovered by a nun named Sister Maggie, whom Murdock would later learn was actually his mother.
In later years, the name of the establishment was changed from Fogwell's Gym to Battling Jack's Gym.
Notes & Trivia[]
- Fogwell's Gym was created by writer Stan Lee and artist Bill Everett.
- Fogwell's Gym is not to be confused with Frank's Gym - another Daredevil location, which is also located on the Lower West Side.
