Flying horses are a breed of fictional animal found in various forms of folklore. They are most commonly found in Greek mythology as well as Norse mythology. The most infamous representation of a flying horse is Pegasus, who was spawned from the blood of the Gorgon Medusa after she was decapitated by the Greek hero Perseus. Pegasus is considered a child of Poseidon - the God of the Sea. In Norse mythology, the fabled Valkyrie would ride atop a herd of winged steeds as they ushered the souls of fallen heroes into the after-world realm of Valhalla.
On the 1978 cartoon series The Freedom Force, an animated version of Pegasus was associated with the team of heroes. He was the pet and mount of Hercules.
In Marvel Comics continuity, a winged horse of note is Aragorn, who was originally the steed of Dane Whitman, aka the Black Knight. After a period of adventures, Dane Whitman traveled backwards in time to the 12th century. During his absence, he entrusted Aragorn to the care of Brunnhilde the Valkyrie. Aragorn assisted in many of the Vaylkyrie's adventures with the Defenders.
