Flash Gordon's Trip to Mars is an American film serial of the science fiction and adventure genres. It features the character of Flash Gordon who appeared in comic strips created by cartoonist Alex Raymond beginning in 1934. The serial was directed by Ford Beebe and Robert Hill with an original story and screenplay written by Ray Trampe, Norman S. Hall, Wyndham Gittens, and Herbert Dalmas. It was produced by Universal Pictures and released on March 21st, 1938. The film stars Buster Crabbe as the titular Flash Gordon with leading lady Jean Rogers as Dale Arden and Dale Arden, and Frank Shannon as Doctor Alexis Zarkov. Actor Charles Middleton filled the role of the serial's primary antagonist, Emperor Ming.
