"The Flash" is the untitled first story featured in issue #1 of Flash Comics published by National Periodical Publications - a forerunner to the modern DC Comics. The story was written by Gardner Fox with artwork and inks by Harry Lampert. The second story is an adventure tale starring Cliff Cornwall called "The Disappearing Plane". It was written by Gardner Fox and illustrated by Sheldon Moldoff. The third tale introduces the character of Hawkman and is by Gardner Fox and Dennis Neville. The next vignette features Johnny Thunder, aka Johnny Thunderbolt, and is by John B. Wentworth and Stan Asch. The fifth story is called "The Demon Dummy" featuring detective Devlin and is written and illustrated by Ed Wheelan. Next is The Whip by John B. Wentworth and George Storm. The cover art illustration was rendered by Sheldon Moldoff. This issue shipped with a January 1940 cover date and carries a cover price of .10 cents per copy.
