"The Train Job" is the first-aired episode of the science fiction television series Firefly. The series was created by Joss Whedon, famous for his previous successful television programs Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, who also wrote, directed and produced this episode. The episode was co-written and produced by Tim Minear and first aired on the Fox Network on Friday, September 20th, 2002. In this episode, the crew of Serenity accept a job from a known crime lord named Adelai Niska to rob some cargo from a train bound for the mining camps of Paradiso. Mal has second thoughts about the job however when he discovers that the shipment contains stores of highly-anticipated medical supplies that the people of Paradiso need desperately.

• Although this was the first episode in the series to be aired, it is actually the second episode chronologically. The events in this episode follow the events from "Serenity".

• Adelai Niska appears next in "War Stories".

• Andrew Bryniarski, who plays Crow in this episode is also known for playing the character Leatherface in the relaunch of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise.

• Rick Williamson, who plays the Bar guy/Henchman is uncredited in this episode.
