"Vortex" is the pilot episode of the science fiction/adventure series The Fantastic Journey. The episode was directed by Andrew V. McLaglen with a teleplay written by Merwin Gerard, Michael Michaelian and Katharyn Powers. It first aired on NBC on February 3rd, 1977. The series stars Jared Martin as Varian, Carl Franklin as Doctor Fred Walters, Ike Eisenmann as Scott Jordan, Katie Saylor as Liana and Roddy McDowall as Doctor Jonathan Willoway.
