Notes & Trivia[]
- The Fantastic Four were created by writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby. They first appeared in Fantastic Four, Volume 1 #1 in November, 1961. By and large, the roster of the Fantastic Four has remained the same over the years, consisting of Reed Richards as Mister Fantastic, Susan Storm as the Invisible Woman, Johnny Storm as the Human Torch and Ben Grimm as the ever-lovin' blue-eyed Thing. Occasional transitory members of the FF have included Crystal Amaquelin, Luke Cage, Scott Lang, and T'Challa.
- This issue carries the approval stamp of the Comics Code Authority.
- This issue shipped in both direct market and newsstand editions. The newsstand edition has the standard rectangular issue number/cover price box, whereas the direct market edition has a vertical diamond box.
- According to Amazing Heroes #4, this issue shipped to retailers on September 15th, 1981.
- This issue is reprinted in the 44 Years of Fantastic Four digital media collection, published by Graphic Imaging Technology, Inc. in May, 2005. It is also reprinted in the Fantastic Four Visionaries: John Byrne, Volume 1 trade paperback collection, released in November, 2001. It is also reprinted in Marvel Super-Heroes Megazine #6 in March, 1995, and the Fantastic Four Cosmic-Size Special in February, 2009. It is also reprinted in hardcover in the Fantastic Four by John Byrne Omnibus, Volume 1 hardcover collection, published in November, 2011 an Marvel Masterworks: The Fantastic Four, Volume 21 from December, 2019.
- This is the final standard size issue of the series to carry a .50 cents cover price. Beginning next issue, the cover price raises to .60 cents per copy for a standard size issue.
- This is the sixth consecutive issue of Fantastic Four written & illustrated by John Byrne.
- This is the first appearance of Julie D'Angelo, aka Julie Angel. She later becomes a love interest for Johnny Storm. She appears next in Fantastic Four #242.
- In the original newsstand edition, the first panel to show Julie Angel presents her with her nipples visible through her clothing, which was somehow missed by the Comics Code Authority. Reprint editions of this story remove this detail.
- The barbells that Ben Grimm are lifting are constructed from steel-coated adamantium. Adamantium is the strongest metal known to man. This metal is what coats Wolverine's bones and claws.
