  • T'Challa begins referring to himself as the Black Leopard in this issue. This decision was made by Marvel Comics staff to distance the character from the radical activist group known as the Black Panthers.
  • This is the first appearance of Rudyarda, which is a fictional African nation. In terms of political structure, it is intended as an analog of South Africa during the Apartheid era.
