Eureka is a fictional town featured in the Syfy television series Eureka. It is not only the program's namesake, but also the provincial setting for the series. Eureka is named for Greek astronomer Archimedes of Syracuse who first coined the phrase as an exclamation in celebration of a great discovery. On the surface, Eureka appears to be little more than a quaint suburban town, populated with the usual trappings of eateries, boutiques, auto garages and inns. However, Eureka is actually home to a community of super-geniuses, many of whom work for the giant scientific think tank, Global Dynamics.
Eureka is actually an independent community, which is monitored by the Department of Defense. It's location, occupants and activities are considered a state secret and divulgence of any information about Eureka and it's inhabitants is considered an act of treason.
