Eskrima, or escrima sticks are lightweight fighting sticks commonly made out of wood from the rattan vine. They are used in the martial arts discipline of Eskrima, which was developed by the working class of the Philippines around the 15th century. The DC Comics costumed superhero Nightwing uses a short pair of eskrima sticks as part of his crime-fighting arsenal. Nightwing, whose real name is Dick Grayson, is formerly the first sidekick of Batman, and went by the name Robin. As Robin, Grayson did not employ any type of weaponry other than the pointed throwing weapons known as batarangs. As Nightwing, he further developed his martial prowess and began using other weapons as well, including eskrima sticks.
In WildStorm continuity, the soldier known as Grail (Salvador Joel Alonday) is proficient in the use of dual arnis sticks. During a mission at Madison Square Garden, he underwent a transmutative change that transformed his arnis sticks into energy batons, which was fueled by chi energy.
