Empire State University, or ESU, is a fictional college university featured in comic books published by Marvel Comics. It is located in midtown Manhattan in New York City, New York

One of ESU's more notable students was Peter Parker, aka the Amazing Spider-Man. Parker's intellect impressed his instructors, but they all seemed to note his lack of discipline when it came to his studies. Of course, they could not possibly know that Peter's grades were slipping due to all of the times he had to go out at night as Spider-Man.

One one such occasion, Spider-Man fought up against Clifton Shallot - the new Vulture in the science labs at ESU. This fight nearly cost the life of lab assistant Christine Murrow and did in fact result in the death of Murrow's roomate Gloria Jenkins. ^[1]

Dean Beatty had to come up with several solutions to resolve fiscal problems at the school - not the least of which included housing. To offset costs, he had a foreign exchange student named Brian Braddock share room and board with another student, Peter Parker. ^[2]
