Biography[]

Emma was an American artist that lived in a loft in Greenwich Village. At some point in her life, she became involved with the British occultist, John Constantine. Very little is known of their relationship, save to say that, like many of John's relationships, it didn't last long.

Several years ago, Emma was creating a painting and subconsciously crafted a grotesque image of a scarred being with his head twisted around backwards. This being – a monstrous entity known as an Invunche, materialized from out of the painting and killed her. It threw Emma's body out the window of her loft and down onto the street below. John meanwhile, was in Houma, Louisiana consulting with the Swamp Thing at the time of her death.

A few months later, one of John's old band mates, Gary Lester, managed to bind a demon known as Mnemoth inside of a special containment bottle. Unsure of what to do with the trapped entity, he attempted to track John down. Failing to find him in London, Gary presumed that John was still spending time with Emma in the United States. He had no idea that Emma had been dead for some time. John eventually found Gary who told him that he mailed the sealed bottle to Emma's address.

John flew from London to New York City and returned to her apartment. He didn't find the Mnemoth bottle, but what he did find was Emma's spirit floating down the staircase. Emma accompanied John on his sojourn across the city, making sure to remind the English mage of the sins of his past.

In time, Emma joined with the spirits of other victims of the Invunche – many of whom were former members of John's erstwhile Newcastle Crew. During Constantine's final battle with Mnemoth, Gary Lester lost his life. Emma and the other ghosts helped to ferry Gary's spirit into the afterlife.
