History[]

Island Bridge ray

The Electrothanasia-ray strikes the Island Bridge.

The Electrothanasia-ray was invented by an unidentified mad scientist who threatened to use it on the city of Metropolis as punishment for being ridiculed by the scientific community. The weapon was a massive particle beam projector that was housed within an observatory laboratory some distance away from town.

As he had promised, the mad scientist activated the Electrothanasia-ray and used it to destroy the Island Bridge. Superman was alerted to the crisis, but was too late to stop the destruction of the bridge.

The energy beam struck again, this time hitting the Daily Planet. As the skyscraper began to topple, Superman flew up and pushed back against it, restoring it to its proper position. Superman then intercepted the mad scientist's third Electrothanasia-Ray beam. He was unharmed by its destructive power, but its sheer force managed to slow him down. He delivered a flurry of punches upon the ray beam, beating it back until he could trace it back to its source. Superman destroyed the ray emitter, which caused the entire observatory to explode. Superman captured the Mad Scientist as he fled for safety and promptly took him to jail.

Notes[]
