The Eiffel Tower is a big iron-lattice structure located in Paris, France. It is one of the most recognizable landmarks in the entire world and has become an iconic trademark symbol of France and French culture. It was designed by Gustav Eiffel, from which it was named, in 1889 and stands at a height of 324 meters. Before an antenna was added to it, it was previously the tallest structure in the world, but was surpassed by the Chrysler Building in New York City, which was built in 1930.
The Eiffel Tower seems to appear a lot in disaster fiction, mostly so that it can be destroyed in some spectacular visual display, which is intended to jolt the viewer into recognizing the dramatic intensity of the scene. Movies such as Armageddon and Mars Attacks! have both taken opportunites to wreak havoc with the Eiffel Tower.
