The Earth Totem is a fictional mystical artifact featured in the DC Television Universe. It appeared on episodes from season three of the CW Network television series Legends of Tomorrow. It first appeared in the episode "The Curse of the Earth Totem".
Hundreds of years ago, there were six tribes of the Zambesi people of Africa. These tribes came under attack by a demonic entity known as Mallus. All but one of the tribes opposed Mallus, with one tribe betraying its brethren and siding with him. The Zambesi called upon their Gods for protection and six mystical talismans of power were created.
The Earth Totem represented the power of the planet itself, including plant life. It was cast in the form of a green emerald. In the year 1717, it belonged to the pirate captain known as Blackbeard, who gave it to his beloved, Anne Queen. They intended on burying the totem along with the rest of Blackbeard's treasure on Grace Island, but Anne Queen's natural greed corrupted the power of the totem. Upon activating it, the totem spawned vines and roots that entangled her, and Blackbeard was forced to shoot her in the head.
A short time later, the time-displaced villain known as Damien Darhk learned where the totem was and went to Grace Island. The treasure was unearthed, as was Anne Queen's corpse, who was reanimated and attacked them. Darhk put her down once and for all by snapping her neck, then took possession of the totem.
