Description[]

The most notable historical accounts of Earth-37 take place in Gotham City in the early 1960s. It is the era of John F. Kennedy, the Cold War, the underpinnings of the upcoming space race and the rise of the gentleman spy. As with many other realities, Gotham City is a den of inequity and corruption, dominated by organized crime. As a young boy, Bruce Wayne's parents were murdered by members of the family staff at Wayne Manor. Unable to pay off his family's debts, Wayne was forced to sell the mansion to Bobbi Merrill Gordon, the ex-wife of Gotham City Police Commissioner James Gordon. Upon her passing, the estate went to her daughter, Barbara Gordon, though it was still known as Wayne Manor.

Emboldened by his traumatic childhood, Bruce Wayne decided to strike back against the evils of the world and became a detective for the Gotham City Police Department. He was partnered with a man named Larry Lance, who was murdered by a thug name Croc, who worked for drug czar Otto Saunders.

Barbara Gordon likewise wished to strike back against the organized crime that ran rampant throughout Gotham, most of which was orchestrated by a woman named Bianca Steeplechase. Using the resources of her home and family fortune, she became a costumed vigilante named Batgirl. Barbara entered into a love affair with a former circus performer named Rickart Graustark, who changed his name to Richard Grayson. Grayson became Barbara's partner in crime as Robin.

Bianca Steeplechase murdered Robin, which inspired Bruce Wayne to enter the vigilante game as well. Realizing he could do more as a costumed crimefighter than as a detective, he became the Batman, and Barbara Gordon's new partner.

Detective Larry Lance's widow, Dinah Drake Lance, late of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, likewise fought to topple Bianca's empire and bring Otto Saunders to justice. To this end, she donned a leather costume and a blonde wig and became Black Canary.

To honor the legacy of Rickart Graustark, Barbara Gordon changed her hair and costume and became the new Robin. Along with Batman and Black Canary, she helped bring Bianca Steeplechase's reign to an end, and in so doing, helped rescue two hostages named Roy Harper and Hayley Fitzpatrick. While Roy went on to become a protégé of Batman as an archer, Hayley became a psychotic pastiche of Bianca known as Harley Quinn.
